Then came Saturday, the 24th....

When I came in, I was told that I had to get special wrist bands to get inside the Q and A session at the Fear Factor Live Theater, and the autograph session, plus prop exhibit, at the Globe. I managed to get both in plenty of time. In fact, there was still lots of tickets left for the Q and A session by noon. The other wristbands for the autographs went quickly.
Park customers were told early that Joss Whedon wouldn't be there because of schedule conflicts. However, it was hoped that much of the cast would be there. It turned out that Summer Glau (River) and Adam Baldwin (Jayne) made it along with the gangster twins, Mingo and Fanty, played by Yan and Rafael Feldman. Exec Producer Chris Buchanan (the assistant Joss) was also there along with special effects guy Loni Peristere. Actually, the Feldman twins were quite the hit at the afterparty. They were popular here, too.
Since I was too far away to get a good picture, I have these pics, thanks to IESB.net (for Inland Empire Strikes Back). They're linked to the site

Before they appeared, the host had a trivia contest to see if the fans really know their Firefly. That was followed by a trailer and a short film of how the fans made this show a movie. Summer got the first question, mainly about how she learned martial arts. She said she had three months of intense training. She really got into it during filming, but decided to end it right there. She also said she liked playing River because she is several girls rolled into one. She certainly is...especially in this movie.
The Feldmens said they were nervous joining the cast as the gangster twins, but were welcomed quickly by the rest of the cast. Adam, meanwhile, asked who in thr audience have seen the movie and the TV show...just checking, of course.
Chris then talked about how Universal got the rights to Serenity from Fox. He said Fox really decided to help Universal by giving them this franchise, and credited Mary Parent for making Serenity a movie. He said Parent was really interested in working with Joss. Someone then asked if turning TV shows into movies is becoming a common trend. Chris said only if it makes sense, although someone suggested when The Inside and Wonderfalls could become movies. Yeah, when?
Summer and Adam were then asked about whether they wondered about their characters' backstories. Summer said she was happy about how her character turned out. There's a hint in a movie poster. Adam wondered why Inara wasn't intererested in Jayne (well, if Mal had no chance....), but he did see Kaylee as a sister or 2nd cousin.
Someone then asked what Summer and Adam's least favorite thing about their characters. Summer said (really) she wondered why River didn't comb her hair more, while Adam was wondered about Jayne's smell.
Oh, if you're waiting for Firefly to come back, Chris says it's a challenging project that isn't happening. But imagine a spinoff of the Firefly-verse, maybe a prequel? Actually, there is one idea, but you have to see all of Serenity to suspect what it could be.
Now, back to the twins...they said they didn't really see Firefly, but once they did, they got hooked. That's when resistence is futile, because it's better than anything.
Perestere then showed how some of the special effects were laid out. It's more than just storyboards. It involves getting as much of the scene as possible, then filling in the blacks with CGI effects. They even re-create the scene in computer animation form to get it right. It's not like a Comic-Con forum, but it was interesting.

About 300 people then went to the Globe, waiting in line to get an autograph of Summer and Adam, and see some of the props.
Many of them were very excited to see them. like.....
The first 200 did get in to see the cast and crew, but these 84,including me, did not.
The park crew explained Summer and Adam had to leave by 4:30 due to other commitments, and that some who waited wouldn't be able to get inside. They provided autographed mini-posters (like the one seen below)  and other swag as compensation. We also got a chance to see the props (on the next page). But many people were disappointed....for a while.
Nice, but not the same as seeing Adam and Summer up close.
So, here's Adam up close. That's why he's a fan favorite!
