SO LONG X-MEN, AVENGERS ASSEMBLE! The rumours are true because Samuel L. Jackson says so. MTV says that Jackson is looking forward to having Joss direct the Avengers movie, and help write the script. Even Stan Lee said at Anaheim Wizard World that Jould make a good choice. This means he may not write too many Buffy season 9 issues for Dark Horse, but at least he'll finally get a chance to direct a major-budget movie. JOSS' CABIN HAS EXTREME MAKEOVER After gambling on turning a show that ended too soon into a classic sci-fi western, Mary Parent is turning to Joss to breathe new life into MGM. Cabin In the Woods, which was co-written by Mr. Cloverfield, Drew Goddard (who will also direct this movie), has been delayed until January 2011, according to Coming Soon. Seems that it tested well as a regular movie, and they have decided it may be even better as a 3-D movie. That process will take six months to complete. The Hollywood Reporter says Bradley Whitford and Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins have signed up. HitFlix also adds four roommates, including Fran Kranz, aka Topher. In fact, Fran says in SciFiWire about how the movie could be a hybrid between Evil Dead and The Truman Show. Wait, Serial Killers take over reality TV...in 3-D? THE GREAT TWILIGHT SCANDAL So who is Twilight, the one who apparently thinks the world is better off without magic, and Buffy, for that matter? Thanks to a big mistake usually made by Homeland Security aides, the truth was revealed two months early, and lots of people wish it weren't so. For those who still don't know, I won't mention who, but I think it's terrible unless it turns out to be an imposter. If it is, it will ruin sales of Buffy's current Dark Horse series, and may endanger a certain title for IDW (hint: the disillusioned fans may switch to Spike) Well, we'll find out for sure soon, with an explanation from Joss as well. For now, Comic Book Resources reveals that the big twist was done without full support from IDW. Yikes! However, Joss has a response for that in CBR as well. Parts one and two suggest the big reveal is only the introduction to the real issue that will drive the climax. Scott Allie of Dark Horse explains what happened. If you don't want to know, wait until March 3rd or 10th to read it Again, there better be some reason behind this revelation. Otherwise, people will drop the real Twilight like baseball fans will drop Mark McGwire. SARAH'S DIRECT TO DVD A long time ago, Sarah Michelle Gellar made a remake of a Korean horror flick called Possession, where a woman's husband may have wound up in his brother's body after a severe car accident. Bloody Disgusting says that movie will finally be on DVD in March. The movie also includes Lee Pace of Pushing Daisies. Amazon also says the other movie she made in 2009, Veronika Decides to Die, will also be released in April. THE PANEL TO END ALL PANELS Thanks for YouTube, we have a rare DragonCon treat: Kristy Swanson (the Original Buffy) Julie Benz (Darla), Charsima Carpenter (Cordelia) and Felicia Day (Vi and a few other things) shooting the breeze, and a lot more. Dig the third part, where they talk about how Connor and Jasmine were born. It's....creepy, but fun! There's also a link to video from William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. Check that, there's a sequel, with James Marsters added for good measure. DR. HORRIBLE CONQUERS EMMYS...AND ABOUT TIME, TOO He did it! Joss Whedon got his Emmy for Dr. Horrible, and here's my take of it in Whedonopolis, and how this could mean Felicia Day may soon be next. Joss tells Sci-Fi Wire how great it is to get Emmy recognition. He also talks about a Cabin and a Dollhouse. Joss also hosted a screening of the Sing-A-Long Blog in New York. Buffyfest has a report on this, complete with interesting fun facts, ANDREW GOES BROADWAY..AND YOU'LL KEEP ON LOVING HIM Who would have thought Tom Lenk, the last of the Nerd Troika from Buffy, would get to rock out in New York? Well, he actually help the musical Rock of Ages get off the ground in L-A and Vegas before it reached Broadway. So, that's why TheaterMania says he'll take on his old role, Franz, for six months. Much of the current cast will also stay through next summer. Don't stop believing! TIM MINEAR GOES J.J. ABRAMS, KIND OF... He's planning to update the Fox sci-fi movie and TV show, Alien Nation. The word from Variety is that it will be part of SyFy's lineup. The story, about aliens who settle on Earth, and their problems dealing in their new homeworld, will be a metaphor to our attitudes towards immigrants. No word yet on whether we'll have a cop who works with an alien partner, but we should. GILES 1, "MERRICK" 0 Buffy fans recognize Joss as the one true creator of the Buffyverse. Now, Anthony Stewart Head agrees with that. He was asked about the possibility of a Buffy movie without Joss in The Movie Blog. Let's just say he doesn't have glowing comments about Fran Rubel Kuzui, and what was done with Joss' script. You have to wonder if he believes her claim that she'd make a Buffy remake "darker" and more ambitious. However, Amber Benson is giving the idea the benefit of the doubt, in this comment from MTV. Again, Mrs. Kuzui, make your Slayer movie, but don't call her Buffy. STILL, WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BUFFY MOVIE? A lot, apparently. The Exploding Kinetoscope really gets detailed in this blog on the film. You'd see more extensive analysis in Firefly and Buffy episodes. It calls on lots of other horror movies, and compares it to the TV show. The gist of it is that the blog wants the movie to be recognized as the rough draft to the show we all know so well. At least it's getting people to see the film. PALEY FESTIVAL, NOW IN YOUR iPOD The Paley Festival is now in the 21st Century, by offering panels from past Paley Festivals, especially this year's edition, on iTunes. They're two bucks each, which would make them more entertaining than most shows. The list includes Dr. Horrible and Dollhouse. This won't replace going to the event itself, but it's the next best thing. TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER...OR YOUR OFFICE MANAGER A local magazine called 225 Baton Rouge has an article about a movie called Drones. It features some employees in office cubicles who may or may not be aliens. It could be just where they work, or they may be an invasion force that got really unlucky. It's news because Johnathan Woodward is the lead, and it has two directors...Amber Benson and Adam Busch. It just premiered at Slamdance, and Slug magazine has a glowing review of this cross between The Office and maybe The Day the Earth Stood Still (or at least The Day The Copier Ran Out Of Toner). It will also be part of the Florida Film Festival in April. DRU'S DOCU ABOUT GARY OLDMAN TAKES FLIGHT There's a website about Juliet Landau's short film about Gary Oldman called Take Flight, and it's fascinating for seevral reasons. Aside from the fact it's her first stint as a director, we find out that it's about a very interesting project: He films a video for a Jewish Hip Hop group by only using Nokia cell phones. She shows how it all came together through his eyes, although making videos via cell phones is also kinda wild. Moviehole has more on this and a DVD release date of February 26th. A REGRETTABLE SUICIDE...BUT NO WORRIES ABOUT TYPECASTING Meanwhile, Sarah has a movie in the works called Veronika Decides To Die, about a woman whose suicide attempt has severely injured her heart, and she has only a few days to live. In that time, she hopes to hang on to find love and a purpose. Celebrity-Gossip.net has pictures of Sarah at work, and there is a trailer--and it's hoped we'll see it in the fall. Then see this YouTube clip of an interview with WOOD television, where she talks about how the writer's strile affected L-A, and about her future roles, such as the one two paragraphs ago. SAY, ANYONE SEEN GILES? If you live in the UK, it's hard not to see him. Anthony Stewart Head's website shows he's got a lot of coals in the professional fire. There are lots of links to upcoming appearances. For example, he'll be on Sold!, an ITV sitcom about real estate agents. YOU CAN'T HURRY LOVE Emma Caufield has a new movie called TiMER, which tells you wne "the one" will come into your life. There's a feature of her from the Tribeca Film website, including some questionable medical advice that still worked. |
